Fund Options:

A fund can be tailored to match a donor's philanthropic objectives. Here are some possibilities:

Community Funds
These funds constitute the core of the Community Foundation's ability to strengthen the community because they make grants possible in areas not adequately covered in a particular year by designated and advised funds. The Community Foundation's Board of Governors, with recommendations from the Grants Committee, directs the income to meet emerging opportunities and address issues of importance as they change over time. In this way, the community foundation balances its overall support to the community in all its diversity.

Field-of-Interest
Such funds allow the donor to specify a particular area of interest, such as children, the arts or environmental issues, towards which the grants will be directed. The Community Foundation's Board of Governors will then approve specific grants based on advice from the Grants Committee.

Donor-Advised
This fund allows the donor an ongoing involvement with the disbursement of the gift. The donor advises the Community Foundation each year as to which charitable organizations are to receive grants. Donors have the option of selecting from a list of grantees and projects recommended by the Grants Committee. This is our most popular type of fund and is often used by individuals, families or corporations as
an alternative to establishing a separate foundation.

Designated
This kind of fund allows the donor to choose specific charitable organizations that will be the perpetual beneficiaries of the annual income.

Scholarship
Earnings from these funds are used to provide scholarships, awards and bursaries to help students pursue academic goals. The donor may specify the criteria or the educational institution. A scholarship fund can either by administered completely by the Community Foundation or be applied to an existing program at a qualified educational institution.

Organizational Endowment
Organizations with registered charitable status can choose to establish a fund with the Community Foundation in order to benefit from the Community Foundation's professional investment management and to ensure long-term financial stability.

Memorial
The Community Foundation can also establish a memorial fund — a lasting tribute for a special person.

Flow-Through
These non-endowed funds can work separately or with any of the other kinds of endowed funds, allowing a donor to give instructions on disbursements to charitable organizations or causes.
