The Ottawa
Citizen Literacy Foundation
Funds of the Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation are invested
and managed by the Community Foundation of Ottawa. Interest earned
on the fund is used in support of literacy projects in the community.
The Community Foundation manages the grant program on behalf of
the Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation. To apply for a grant,

Purpose
The Ottawa Citizen Literacy Foundation was established in 1993
to act on the belief that literacy is a powerful tool, leading
to improved quality of life and greater participation in society.
Organizations are invited to apply for funds to support literacy
and language training in areas served by the Ottawa Citizen in
Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
The annual deadline for applications is October 1. To
be considered in each grant cycle, complete applications must
be received at our office no later than 5 p.m. on the deadline
date.
Eligibility
Grants are made to not-for-profit organizations, including school
boards, recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as registered
charities, or those organizations sponsored by a registered charity.
Applicants must demonstrate fiscal responsibility and have a committed
volunteer committee or board.
Please note that applications for the funding of deficits will
not be considered.
