Asset Based Community Development Network:
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is an approach
that identifies and builds on the personal, social and economic
assets of a community by supporting initiatives that focus on
capacity building, problem-solving and wealth building for individuals
and communities. Some of the tools utilized in ABCD include Individual
Development Accounts, capacity inventories, asset mapping, training,
mentorship (coaching), affordable home ownership, micro-enterprise,
and Community Development Financial Institutions.
Over the last few years, the Community Foundation has played a pivotal role in establishing the ABCD Network to identify local initiatives that support ABCD. The Network is open to anyone interested in ABCD in Ottawa and includes representatives from community agencies, academic sectors and government.
